An Italian mini vacation

We took a long weekend to visit Rome and Pompei. It was a long bus drive but it was worth the neck and back pain, which I felt for days. I can honestly say that I fell in love with Rome, which has so much to offer, my favorite part being the ancient Rome architecture or what's left of it.
On our way towards the Colosseum

Visting Pompei was a dream come true. It is like traveling back in time where you can almost capture the essence of life as it was in 79 AD when it was buried under the ashes of Vesuvius.

The town was very colorful

The streets of Pompei

The Vesuvius in the background... still looking menacing...

And on top of Vesuvius we went. There's a steep path to the crater with a magnificent view over the Neaples bay. Vesuvius is the only active volcano on the European continent - thankfuly, dormant.

As always, your photos are beautiful~~ :)
It's hard for me to get my mind around how old things are there...and that you can take a bus trip to Rome. :))
You are VERY brave to stand on the lip of a volcano ~ even a dormant one!
