Sweet Zara

Zara was with us for a month. Her story is a sad one... a story, that too many stray cats share... but I hope she can thrive in her new home with the most wonderful human friend. She deserved her fortune to change.

Zara was born to a very young mother, on a hot summer day, almost a year ago. The stars had not been favorable to her nor was the environment in which she grew up (the port). She was only a few weeks old when her mother was hit by a car. Her mum was hurt but still somehow managed to survive and provide for Zara and her sister. With the first cool days of autumnZara' mother succumbed to injuries (although there were quite a few people trying to trap her,all efforts were in vain). Another cat, who only a few weeks before ventured in this dangerous area (big trucks and service vehicles) with a tiny boy of her own, started to take care of Zara and her sister. The cats survived the harsh winter sticking to each other.  Zara's sister disappeared one day, and during the Easter holidays, a car killed her surrogate mum. The boy was trapped immediately, but Zara successfully evaded the trap for 3 more weeks - she was skin and bones when they finally managed to trap her. She spent two weeks at a vet clinic - they had to put some weight on her and heal a nasty cold so that she could be neutered. When she left the vet clinic she came to me. She wouldn't eat, play, or even just stand up. She loved the cuddles though. Every sudden movement on my part made her panic. She relaxed every day more and more and after I started feeding her by hand, she started to eat on her own. It was the best day of that month when she finally finished the entire bowl of wet food (70g!!!). But there's another sad part of the story... Zara is Felv positive. During a visit to the vet he said that her future doesn't look bright and that she might never gain weight or live to be 2. Boy, was he wrong! Zara has grown in all directions since she adapted to her new home and is blossoming into an independent girl.
